Bourgogne Wine 4th - Beaune, Côte de Beaune

Beaune is the epicenter of Burgundy's wine trade and  the second-largest town in the famous Cote d'Or wine region.

The Beaune appellation has an unusually high proportion of Premier Cru-classified vineyards, with more than 40 climats stretching in an uninterrupted belt across the commune from north to south. Wines from these sites are permitted by law to bear the title Beaune Premier Cru.

Bourgogne Wine 3rd - Savigny, Côte de Beaune

Savigny-les-Beaune is a large village in the Cote de Beaune sub-region of Burgundy, nestled between the hillsides of a sub-valley in the Cote d'Or escarpment.

They are similar in style to the red wines of Beaune, being neither as elegant as Volnay nor as powerful as Pommard, yet generally reliable and good value for money.

Bourgogne Wine 2nd - Corton, Côte de Beaune

Corton is the grand cru appellation covering the slopes of the Montagne de Corton hill in the Côte de Beaune district of Burgundy.

The classic Corton red wine is rich and relatively tannic, meaning that it is quite austere in its youth but develops well with age. Corton tasting notes often refer to flavors of violets, forest berries, leather and earthy notes.

Corton Charlemagne is considered to be one of the finest of Burgundy's white wines and is famous for its combination of fruit flavors (figs and baked pears) and mineral character (flint) .

Bourgogne Wine 1st - Ladoix, Côte de Beaune

The vineyards of Ladoix-Serrigny were classified in 1982, when about a quarter of them were granted Premier Cru status.

The village's location on the very eastern edge of the wine-producing belt means that its terroirs are sharply divided between the over-fertile soils of the plains and the well-drained, sunny slopes of Corton.

In fact, the village has more land devoted to the Grand Cru red wines of Corton than it does to the Premier Cru tier of the Ladoix appellation.
